Crypto Campaigns: How to Brief an Expert and Judge the Evidence
Updated: 4 days ago

Expert help is useful when it resolves a specific campaign problem and produces evidence you can inspect. An agency label, a large community or a confident promise does not establish that expertise.
Updated 3 October 2026. Correction: the earlier article described an unnamed six-figure DeFi campaign and a 40% client improvement without supporting records. Those examples and claims of our own client delivery have been removed. The Rebel Marketer is an independent publishing project; this article is a buyer's evaluation method.
Start with the problem, not the provider
Name the obstacle: confusing onboarding, poor educational content, unsuitable targeting, an unanswered trust question or weak follow-up. A media buyer may help with distribution. A technical educator may explain custody. A community moderator may improve support. These are different jobs.
Write the desired output: an audited journey, a set of accurate demonstrations, a moderated question session or a measured pilot. “Grow the community” is too vague to price or evaluate.
Ask for an evidence packet
For every proposed case study, request the time period, audience, product, country, spend, event definitions, baseline, exclusions and result source. An authorised, redacted report can support the claim without exposing customer data.
Ask who did the work and what else changed. A larger result after a campaign is an observation; attributing the entire increase to that campaign requires a stronger design. A screenshot of followers cannot demonstrate retained customers.
Reject fabricated testimonials, purchased engagement and implied partnerships. If a provider cannot identify the limits of its evidence, its confidence is not a substitute.
Define five stages separately
Discovery: someone sees the message. Participation: they attend, read or ask a relevant question. Registration: they create an account. Qualification: the account meets a defined, lawful requirement. Retained usefulness: the customer still uses a suitable product after the incentive period.
Deposits may be one activity measure, but they are neither revenue nor proof of customer welfare. Withdrawals, complaints, fraud, support burden and continuing use can materially change the picture. Do not design a campaign simply to induce risky trading.
Build education into the pilot
A community channel can publish a clearly scoped FAQ and host a moderated session. Explain product availability, charges, custody, withdrawal routes and risks. Record unresolved questions and send them to the appropriate product owner.
Avoid describing Telegram or Discord as inherently better acquisition channels. Choose a channel where the audience already participates and where you can provide moderation and accurate answers.
Use our crypto contest design guide for participation rules and creative contest ideas for educational formats.
Track attribution without inventing certainty
A referral link can identify a channel relationship under provider rules. It does not automatically establish a person's identity, eligibility or reasons for joining. Blockchain activity does not, by itself, prove an off-chain signup is genuine.
Document deduplication, consent, validation and fraud handling. Share only necessary data with partners. Separate provider-validated results from your own estimates.
Our referral attribution guide explains the stages where records can diverge.
Use economics with meaningful denominators
Hypothetical pilot: €1,200 total cost generates 80 registrations, 30 validated qualified accounts and 12 customers still using the suitable product after the chosen review period. Cost is €15 per registration, €40 per qualified account and €100 per retained customer.
None of these values is automatically good. Compare the defined outcome with contribution, service costs and customer suitability. Do not call deposited assets campaign profit.
Decide in advance which outcome justifies the next step. If registrations rise but qualification collapses, inspect acquisition fit before increasing incentives.
Make the engagement reviewable
Specify deliverables, owners, account access, approval rights, data handling, payment milestones and reporting format. Use least-privilege access and retain control of business accounts. Agree what happens if the product or campaign terms change.
For regulated or restricted promotion, verify the actual product, target markets and applicable rules with appropriate specialists. A generic “crypto expert” cannot establish all jurisdictional permissions.
What should the final pilot report say?
State the question, intervention, audience, period, complete cost, denominators, result source, exclusions and uncertainty. Include failures and unresolved issues. Explain whether the next decision is to continue, redesign or stop.
A useful expert should make you better able to decide. The clearest proof of value is a decision supported by records, not another story about guaranteed growth.
