TikTok Ads Budget: Platform Minimums, Test Design and Break-Even

There is no universal first TikTok Ads budget. Choose an amount that meets the actual account requirements, can answer a defined question and stays within your business's spending limit. A permitted budget is not automatically a useful experiment.

Updated 3 October 2026. Correction: the earlier $140–$700 recommendation and approximately $20-per-day examples could be mistaken for a universally permitted or sufficient setup. They are replaced by a calculation method and clearly hypothetical scenarios.

Check the technical minimum first

TikTok's budget documentation, checked on 3 October 2026, states that daily campaign budgets must exceed USD $50 and daily ad-group budgets must exceed USD $20. It also describes lifetime budget requirements and duration-dependent ad-group calculations.

These are different configuration levels. Confirm the settings, currency and applicable requirements in your account. Do not simply substitute €20 for $20 or assume that an exactly $20 daily setting meets a requirement to exceed $20.

The published minimum does not predict leads, sales or statistical confidence.

Decide what you need to learn

An attention test compares openings or demonstrations. A conversion test examines a defined lead or purchase event. A scaling test asks whether acceptable results persist as delivery expands.

Each stage needs its own decision criterion. Comparing click-through rates does not validate profitability. Attempting three markets, several audiences and many ads with a small pot can leave each comparison under-observed.

Use our first-campaign guide to connect the budget with the complete customer journey.

Calculate contribution before advertising

Hypothetical product: €100 selling price minus €35 variable fulfilment and payment costs produces €65 contribution before advertising. If you require €25 remaining per sale, the advertising allowance is €40 per purchase, before other unallocated costs.

Include refunds, discounts and service costs appropriately. Revenue divided by ad spend is ROAS; it is not profit. Estimated repeat purchases are uncertain future value, not cash already earned.

For leads, multiply contribution per acquired customer by an evidence-based close rate, then allow for lead handling and uncertainty. €300 contribution with a 10% qualified-lead close rate gives €30 expected contribution per qualified lead before those deductions. An unqualified form submission may have a different value.

Estimate volume without promising it

Illustrative planning equation: expected events = allocated spend / assumed cost per event. If €500 is allocated and €40 CPA is assumed, the planning estimate is 12.5 purchases. It is not a promise, and actual delivery and CPA may differ.

Ask whether that possible volume can answer your question. A comparison divided among many cells may produce only a few observations per cell. More money cannot repair invalid tracking or a misleading offer.

TikTok's learning-phase guidance explains that performance can fluctuate and settings changes can affect learning. A platform learning indicator is not a statistical certificate that your commercial conclusion is correct.

What could €200, €500 or €1,000 support?

€200 scenario: first reserve the needed production and setup costs. If the remainder cannot support the required account configuration and meaningful duration, use it for customer interviews, organic demonstrations and journey repairs. It is acceptable not to launch paid media.

€500 scenario: choose one question and a simple configuration that the actual account permits. Keep creative alternatives limited enough to receive meaningful delivery. State whether €500 is total campaign cost or media spend.

€1,000 scenario: more budget may permit a longer test or an additional comparison. Add complexity only to answer a specific question. Retargeting also depends on an eligible audience and suitable permissions, not merely having money available.

These scenarios are allocation choices, not recommended universal daily budgets.

Daily and lifetime budgets need supervision

Daily and lifetime settings constrain different periods. Review the account's spending behaviour and current guidance rather than treating a daily number as an exact bill every calendar day.

Record the total cash ceiling, review cadence and who can change settings. Include conversion delay when deciding whether recent spend has finished producing observable results.

Pause for a broken checkout, inaccurate claim, unreliable tracking or breached spending limit. Other decisions should follow a prewritten test plan rather than impatience after a few hours.

Define continuation before launch

A continuation rule might require verified events at an acceptable contribution, lead quality confirmed by the business and no unresolved technical or fulfilment problem. Specify the observation period and acknowledge when the sample remains weak.

A stop rule might be a capped learning expenditure without relevant evidence. Reporting “inconclusive within the cap” is more useful than declaring the entire platform works or fails.

Budget increases are another experiment. Changing delivery conditions can alter the economics.

Count full campaign cost

Separate media spend, creative production, tools, staff time, agency work, incentives and follow-up. Track cash and economic costs clearly. Credits may reduce eligible charges, but their required spend, expiry and conditions can alter the decision.

Do not spend extra only to chase an advertised credit tier. Check the current offer through our TikTok partner link only if the underlying campaign fits your needs. The Rebel Marketer may receive compensation; no credit amount is guaranteed.

The useful budget is one you can justify before launch and evaluate afterwards, with the assumptions still visible.
